The Lantern of the Laughless Saint Beginner Guide
Start The Lantern of the Laughless Saint with a clear, spoiler-conscious overview of the island, the Tower, exploration, co-op, and Early Access systems.
What should new players know before starting?
The Lantern of the Laughless Saint is an open-world RPG from NerveLabs. You awaken on an isolated island crowned by a silent Tower, then learn its history through exploration, conversations, rumors, and the choices you make. Steam describes it as a solo or co-op RPG inspired by Morrowind.
The Early Access build is already a full playable open-world experience. According to the official Steam page, it includes a completable main quest, 50+ quests, 60+ unique enemies, 100+ equippable items, spell crafting, alchemy, and full co-op support.
How should you approach the island?
Treat exploration as the main system rather than a detour. The developer describes learning the land by walking it, following rumors, reading fragments of history, and meeting people who have also reached the island.
For a first session:
- Listen for names, landmarks, and directions in dialogue instead of expecting every lead to become a waypoint.
- Keep a short note of unfinished leads, unusual NPCs, and routes that seem blocked.
- Revisit areas when a conversation or item gives a new reason to look at them differently.
- Use the map and locations hub for community-verified field notes, not guessed route data.
What systems are confirmed in Early Access?
The Steam listing confirms spell crafting and alchemy as part of the current build. It also says those systems are planned to be expanded as development continues. That makes experimentation valuable, but it also means exact recipes, balance, and build recommendations can change between patches.
The game also emphasizes quests with multiple resolutions. The official description names mercy, violence, compromise, and deceit as possible approaches, so do not assume a single outcome is the only intended one.
Can you play solo or with friends?
Yes. Steam lists single-player, online co-op, shared or split-screen co-op, and Remote Play Together. The developer describes the full game as playable in co-op, with exploration, spoils, choices, and consequences shared by the group.
Read the co-op guide before planning a session. It separates official feature confirmations from details that still need a reliable in-game or developer source.
What should you avoid assuming?
Early Access is still active. NerveLabs says it plans updates every one to two weeks and that the current game will receive more areas, enemies, equipment, and quests. This wiki therefore does not invent an exact character-level cap, a PS5 release date, fixed Steam Deck settings, or unverified map locations.
